Three Convenient Locations
Patient Services - Physical Therapy
At Buffalo Spine and Sports Institute (BSSI), our physical therapy program is dedicated to helping our patients achieve their activity goals; be it a return to sports, to work or simply to walking with less pain. When receiving treatmenst at our physical therapy location in Williamsville (100 College Parkway) our dynamic approach is always personally tailored to meet each patient's specific needs.
Physical therapy is an integrated part of our BSSI practice, one that includes physicians and therapists as members of a collaborative clinical team. Therapists stay in constant contact with our physicians and together they continually evaluate and monitor patient's responses to treatments. So, if a patient has a need that their custom designed therapy program is not meeting, they will not experience a lengthy wait for modifications to their therapy. Our physicians and physical therapists will quickly adapt and format a different treatment technique.
Our Dynamic Approach to Evaluation and Treatment:
When patients are evaluated at BSSI, our physicians and clinicians look at areas of the body that may seem far removed from the patient's pain and stiffness.
For example, if there is a shoulder problem, our physical therapists may want to know how the patient's foot, knee, hip and back affect the motion and function of their shoulder and its muscles. The reason being that our physicians not only want to treat the site of pain and stiffness, they want to improve the body’s overall strength and mobility, thereby avoiding continued or future problems as the patient returns to everyday activities. Our physicians and care providers also spend time observing how a patient moves in order to fully develop their individualized therapies.
If a patient requires physical therapy as part of their prescribed treatment, they will begin exercising on their very first day of treatment. While patients are often used to engaging in physical therapy lying down on a table or on a mat on the floor, at BSSI we believe that our patients need to be on their feet while exercising, employing an approach of simple movement patterns that often mimic their everyday activities. The end result is that most patients find our approach highly effective in improving their body's strength and flexibility.
Often before beginning their physical therapy exercises, our patients receive manual or manipulative treatment to improve their mobility and decrease their pain. Then as they move through their exercise program, our patients are continually monitored by BSSI therapists to ensure that they are moving well and with minimal discomfort.
At BSSI, it is our focused goal to make sure that physical therapy treatments are beneficial to each patient's condition, do not increase their pain and help them to take back their lifestyle.
